The job of Librarian/Media Specialist was established to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, selecting, ordering and inventory of library/media materials and/or textbooks, documenting losses and monitoring procedures; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and instructing students on the proper use of the library resource.
Responsibilities
Evaluates books and/or periodicals for retention within collection (e.g. repairing damaged books, recommending retirement of books and/or periodicals) to ensure the availability of current and serviceable books, media, and other library materials.
Assists teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
Conducts classes and/or activities in a variety of grade appropriate formats in accordance with lesson plans (e.g. reading, storytelling, puppet plays, contests, at the) to promote the use and enjoyment of literature.
Maintains materials inventory (e.g. library books, library hardware/software, student Chromebooks, and related instructional materials, etc.) to provide an up-to-date reference and ensure the availability of materials when required.
Monitors student activities and behavior to maintain a safe environment that is conducive to learning.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, professional learning communities, workshops, etc. to convey or gather information required to perform functions and improve student achievement.
Coordinates the planning of school-wide events, like Book Fair, Literacy Night,
Performs routine maintenance and operating checks on media equipment to ensure availability of equipment for school site use.
Prepares manual and electronic documents and reports (e.g. collection statistics, scheduling reports/requests, renewal information, overdue lists, etc.) to provide documentation and information to others.
Gives notices of missing, damaged, or overdue books, media, and materials for the to maintain access to library resources and securing reimbursement for losses.
Repairs books and materials to ensure the availability of books and library
Supports introductory typing skills, as needed to support digital
Serves as part of the Related Arts team, including planning and execution of Morning Program and other school-wide events.
Qualifications

Active licensure in Tennessee (code 473)
Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred
Knowledge of Library practices, terminology, and procedures; age appropriate literature; prepare and maintain accurate records
Ability to build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with staff and families
Strong time management and organizational skills
Maintain emotional constancy in fluid or stressful situations
