Mechanic Supervisor Tech Lead
Job Summary:The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor / Technical Lead is responsible for leading plant maintenance technicians in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while remaining actively involved in hands-on mechanical repairs. This role ensures production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime through strong technical leadership, preventive maintenance execution, and continuous improvement. Supervisory Responsibilities:Lead and support a team of maintenance mechanics and technicians in daily plant operationsAssign work orders, prioritize urgent repairs, and coordinate scheduled maintenanceProvide on-the-job training, mentoring, and technical guidance to maintenance staffSupport employee development, performance feedback, and safety accountability Duties/Responsibilities:Perform advanced mechanical diagnostics and repairs on manufacturing equipment such as: Extrusion and converting machineryRollers, motors, pumps, gearboxes, and conveyorsPneumatic and hydraulic systemsCutting, winding, laminating, or packaging systemsRespond quickly to unplanned equipment downtime and production-critical breakdownsLead root-cause troubleshooting and corrective action implementationPreventive & Predictive Maintenance LeadershipDrive preventive maintenance (PM) compliance and ensure tasks are completed accuratelyRecommend predictive maintenance tools or improvements (vibration analysis, wear tracking, etc.)Work with reliability teams to reduce recurring failures and extend machine lifeMaintenance Planning & CoordinationPartner with Production and Operations teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruptionCoordinate shutdown maintenance activities, line changeovers, and equipment rebuildsMaintain accurate records of labor, repairs, PM completion, and part usage through CMMS systems Required Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of extrusion, converting, film/plastics, or packaging equipmentWelding and fabrication experienceUnderstanding of PLC-related troubleshooting (mechanical side support)Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Reliability Programs Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Education and Experience:High school diploma or GED required (technical degree preferred)5-10 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experiencePrior leadership experience as a lead mechanic, team lead, or supervisor preferredStrong understanding of mechanical systems in a production environmentExperience working with CMMS platforms and maintenance schedulingStrong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skillsLeadership through example (hands-on, floor-focused)Ability to prioritize production-critical work under pressureStrong communication with production, engineering, and managementCommitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvementWork EnvironmentIndustrial manufacturing facilityMay involve exposure to heat, machinery, noise, and shift-based coverageOvertime and on-call support may be required during emergencies or shutdowns Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, and lift for extended periods. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery. Ability to frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
