Director of Recreation

Norwalk Care Center -At Norwalk Care Center , we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Director of Recreation to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreational programs aimed at enhancing the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of our residents.Summary:As the Director of Recreation, you will be responsible for creating monthly activity calendars, managing staff and volunteers, conducting resident assessments, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Your primary focus will be on developing engaging activities, recruiting and supervising staff/volunteers, and ensuring the overall success of our recreational programs.Key Responsibilities:Activity Planning & Implementation: Develop diverse activities such as arts and crafts, exercises, music, games, and spiritual services tailored to resident needs.Assessment & Care Planning: Complete comprehensive assessments, document participation, and contribute to interdisciplinary care plans for residents.Program Management: Recruit, train, and supervise activity assistants and volunteers.Safety & Compliance: Ensure all programs meet state/federal regulations (F-Tag 680) and adhere to safety standards.Community Engagement: Organize special events, outings for residents.Budgeting: Manage the recreational department budget, including purchasing supplies.Qualifications:Education: Often requires a high school diploma, though a degree in recreation therapy or a related field is preferred.Experience: Previous experience working in a nursing home or with geriatric populations is typically required.Required Skills:Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with residents, families, and staff.Compassion: Patience and empathy in working with elderly or disabled individuals.Leadership: Ability to lead a team and organize large-scale events.Creativity: Ability to design engaging and adaptable programming.If you are a dedicated and compassionate professional with a passion for creating engaging recreational programs for seniors, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
