Diesel Mechanic - Lead Technician

_*POSITION DESCRIPTION:*_*Position Title: Lead Mechanic**Department: Shop **Location: St. Paul, MN (1365 Pierce Butler Route)**Last Updated: March 2026*_*SUMMARY OF POSITION:*_The Lead Mechanic (with administrative duties) will perform and oversee preventative maintenance and repairs on company and owner operator equipment, diagnose mechanical issues, and assist in directing shop staff. You will also ensure that all vehicles are in safe operating condition and perform repairs that meet DOT, state and federal requirements. This position oversees CTX's company shop.This role requires balancing hands-on technical work with administrative responsibilities, including managing work orders, updating maintenance databases, controlling inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.In addition, this role is responsible for supporting business improvement by meeting personal and departmental goals and objectives timely and effectively_*POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:*_· Perform scheduled *preventative maintenance inspections* and unscheduled repairs on tractors and company owned chassis· *Troubleshoot and analyze* mechanical break-downs· *Perform diagnostic and repairs* on air/hydraulic brake systems, steering systems, electrical system· Maintain clean work/shop area and follow safety rules· Consult with drivers to understand issue(s) and explain repairs· Maintains accurate records of repairs, maintenance tasks, and labor hours· Manages inventory, orders parts, and maintains relationships with vendors· Uses computerized maintenance management systems to track work orders· Prepares preventative and predictive maintenance schedules· *Other duties as assigned*_*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:*_· Minimum 3-5 years experience as a tractor mechanic· Experience with heavy duty trucks, machine shop equipment or other similar skills required· Knowledge of DOT safety regulations· Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills· Valid driver's license and good driving background· Ability to read and understand repair manuals, basic electrical and hydraulic schematics· Possess at minimum a set of hand tools including a toolbox· Proficiency with technology for diagnosing root cause of tractor breakdowns as well as experience utilizing shop software for managing estimates, work orders, and inventory.· Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol test*Physical Demands/Working Conditions:*Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, climb, kneel and stoopRegularly lift objects up to 50 lbs.Ability to work outdoors, as neededPay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hourBenefits:Dental insuranceHealth insurancePaid time offVision insuranceWork Location: In person
