Sr Attorney Insurance Coverage

Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking a senior-level attorney with substantial experience in liability insurance coverage to join our Insurance Coverage practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background advising insurers and related clients on complex coverage issues, including policy interpretation, coverage opinions, and coverage litigation involving third-party liability claims.This role is best suited for an attorney who has predominantly spent their career working directly with insurance policies and coverage disputes, rather than exclusively defending underlying liability claims.Core Responsibilities:Analyze and interpret liability insurance policies, including:Commercial General Liability (CGL)Automobile liabilityExcess and umbrella policiesAdditional insured endorsements and manuscript provisionsProvide coverage advice and analysis regarding:Duty to defend and duty to indemnifyTrigger of coverageAllocation and exhaustionNotice and late-notice issuesExclusions and limitations"Other insurance" provisionsDraft and review:Coverage opinionsReservation of rights lettersDenial and partial denial lettersCoverage correspondence with claims professionals and insuredsHandle insurance coverage litigation, including:Declaratory judgment actionsCoverage-related motion practiceDiscovery focused on coverage issuesHearings and, where applicable, trial and appellate supportAdvise clients on coverage strategy in connection with underlying liability litigation, including coordination with defense counsel and monitoring counsel.Communicate directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and in-house counsel regarding coverage positions and litigation strategy.Required Qualifications:Minimum 7 years of substantive insurance coverage experience , with a primary focus on liability coverageDemonstrated experience analyzing and applying liability insurance policiesPrior experience drafting formal coverage opinions and position lettersMeaningful involvement in insurance coverage litigationAbility to manage coverage matters with limited supervision
