Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role will play a critical part in overseeing the accounting function, managing financial reporting, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring accurate job costing across multiple projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional with construction, demolition, excavation, heavy civil or other project-based industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys partnering with operations to drive profitability and financial performance.ResponsibilitiesSupervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting adherence to established accounting policies and proceduresLead and manage month/year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statement preparationPrepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAPOversee all job costing functions ensuring costs are accurately captured, allocated and reportedReview project budgets, committed costs, change orders, labor allocation, equipment utilization, subcontractor costs and overall project profitabilityPartner with project managers and operations leadership to monitor project financial performance and provide cost analysis and forecastingAnalyze job cost reports and investigate cost variances, identifying risks and opportunities for improved project profitabilityMaintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processesAssist with annual budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activitiesSupport audits and serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors, lenders, and tax professionalsManage fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and construction-related accounting functionsIdentify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and enhance financial visibility across projectsSupport financial system enhancements and reporting initiativesRequirementsMinimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within commercial demolition, excavation, construction, heavy civil, industrial services, or other project-based industries with transferable experienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredStrong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controlsHands-on experience with job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, project accounting and project profitability analysis requiredDemonstrated ability to analyze project budgets, estimate-to-complete reporting, cost-to-complete projections and cost variance analysisDedicated work ethic, ability to work effectively in fast paced settings with multi-shifting prioritiesPartner with project managers and operations leaders to improve project financial performancePrior leadership or supervisory experience preferredExcellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detailAbility to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departmentsAdvanced Microsoft Excel proficiency requiredProficiency with ERP systems such as Computer East, Deltek or similar preferred
