Cobol Programmer - Healthcare Claims Processing

DPP is seeking a COBOL Developer IV for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.Work location: Fully onsite in Columbia, SCDuration: 6 monthsTerms: W2 positionWork authorization: Candidates must be eligible to earn a low-level (Public Trust) US security clearance.Position summary:You will be part of the EDIG (Electronic Data Interchange Gateway) team, working on the host side alongside a small, collaborative group of developers. In this role, you’ll help support and enhance systems that manage healthcare claims data, partnering closely with both non‑host development teams and operations.We’re looking for someone who is a self‑starter, enjoys problem‑solving, and works well as part of a team. You’ll collaborate regularly with the team lead, who provides direction, priorities, and work assignments, while still having the independence to take ownership of your tasks.The technical environment is primarily mainframe‑based, with daily work involving COBOL (Mainframe and Micro Focus), CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, IBM Batch JCL, Easytrieve, APS Code Generator, vendor pricing software, and MS Office tools. You’ll also work with EDz vendor products for APS on the non‑host side.This role includes participation in an on‑call rotation, in addition to standard day‑to‑day responsibilities, to ensure continued support of critical EDIG processes.Required technology:COBOLPreferred technologies:HIPAA X12 5010 transaction(s) processing (I.E. 837 trans for claims, 835 trans for settlement, 834 trans for membership coverage, 270/271 trans for membership validation, and 276/277 trans for claims inquiry)Host NDM, FTP, VPN push/receive of files from UNIX server(s)Healthcare claims knowledge of data and file formats for Commercial systems; EDIG systems; TRICARE systemsPIMS provider knowledge from development of original PIMS applicationIBM Connect DirectTechnical Requirements, Business Requirements, Test Plans, Implementation PlansCICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, IBM Batch JCL, Easytrieve, APS Code Generator, Vendor Pricing SoftwareMS OfficeEDz vendor product for APS on non-hostMainframe Utilities (SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, IBM IEB*, IEF* utilities, FILEAID, ZEKE Scheduler, NDM (Network Data Mover), FTP (File Transfer Protocol), VPN (Virtual Private Network)Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:Strong understanding of applications/development, quality assurance and integration methodologies, concepts and facilities in a mainframe, midrange, and/or PC/LAN environment.Strong analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrates logical abstract thinking and assimilating/adhering to project goals and deadlines.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Able to work well under pressure and as part of a team.Strong knowledge of interpersonal skills/team building. Familiar with project management concepts.Pays attention to detail.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, vendors etc.Strong knowledge of relevant operating systems, programming languages, and development tools and their usage in the company.Minimum required work experience:6 years of application development, systems testing or other job related experience.Required education/equivalencies:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;OR, Associates degree in CS, IT, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;OR, 4 years job-related work experience (total 10 years without a degree)Interested?
