Head Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach (Spring 2027)
The OpportunityThe Head Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the varsity boys’ lacrosse program while supporting the mission and values of the school. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, sportsmanship, communication, and organizational skills while creating a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes.Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of the varsity boys’ lacrosse program. Plan and conduct practices, games, and off-season workouts. Develop team strategy, conditioning, and player skill development. Foster a positive, disciplined, and competitive team culture. Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and support staff, including the middle school program. Communicate effectively with players, parents, school administration, and athletic department staff. Promote academic success, character development, and leadership among student-athletes. Ensure compliance with school policies and athletic association rules and regulations. Assist with program promotion, community engagement, and offseason development opportunities. Maintain accurate records, team communication, and program organization. Represent the school and athletic program in a professional manner at all times.Qualifications At least 21 years of age with a clean driving record. Previous experience coaching lacrosse at the high school level is preferred. Strong knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, strategy, player development, and team management. Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes both on and off the field. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic success. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required during the season. Steward is a member of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools, so the flexibility to leave midday and return in the evening is important.Preferred Characteristics Passion for mentoring and developing young athletes. Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive team environment.Work Environment Physical demands include: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment. Ability to teach the appropriate physical skills and techniques to be used by the students.
