Senior Director, Government Relations
Job DescriptionThis OpportunityWSP is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Government Relations to join our Midwest Region team. The ideal candidate will be based in one of our major Midwest offices, which includes locations in Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois. This leadership role is critical for guiding our government relations strategy and strengthening partnerships with key external stakeholders across the region.Your ImpactDevelop and recommend corporate strategies on public policy matters and effectively communicate WSP’s positions to state and local elected officials.Lead and oversee engagement with senior-level decision makers in both legislative and executive branches at the state and local levels.Collaborate closely with Regional Business Managers, Area Managers, senior leadership, and market leaders to coordinate stakeholder and client visits that advance our business objectives.Analyze public policy developments to assess their impact on WSP, our clients, and the broader industry; engage with industry peers and leaders to develop proactive solutions to emerging challenges.Advise senior management on political, legislative, and policy trends, highlighting potential risks and opportunities for the company.Represent WSP in key industry associations, business groups, and legislative coalitions, including organizations such as USCM, NLC, RGA/DGA, and other relevant associations.Partner with state and local governments, trade organizations, civic groups, and business associations to advocate for WSP’s interests and industry objectives.Support the company’s social and civic engagement initiatives, helping to design and implement effective community outreach programs.Collaborate with colleagues across the U.S. in various markets—including Energy, Water and Environment, Transportation, Property and Buildings, and Advisory Services—to achieve shared goals and maximize impact. Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in political science, government affairs or a related areaMinimum 12 years' experience in government affairs and architecture/engineering industries requiredAbility to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneouslyAbility to travel frequently Preferred QualificationsGovernment affairs or business development experience in the power and energy industry is strongly preferredExperience working for a public official(s) at the state and local levelExperience in working in a campaign/coalition building environment WSP BenefitsWSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.
