Job Summary:The Facilities Technician I is responsible for completing daily assignments as directed by the Campus Facilities Manager and supporting the facilities department across a variety of maintenance tasks. Duties are performed in areas maintained by Facilities and require relevant knowledge and experience in general maintenance, with work conducted in both indoor and outdoor environments. This role is essential to maintaining safe, clean, and functional school campuses for staff, students, and visitors, in compliance with all applicable city, county, state, and federal regulations. Accurate and timely documentation of all work performed is a critical requirement of this position. Role and Responsibilities:Deliver equipment and suppliesClean restrooms and corridors and sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, and empty trash as neededPick up trash from sports fields after activitiesClean up after lunch timeSet up and take down all school-related activities and eventsMove furniture and equipment as neededRaise the United States flag before school and retire the flag after school hoursAssist with securing the buildingsCommunicate effectively with all members of the school campuses and communityAppropriately operate all equipment and machinery, as necessaryMaintain all school buildings and athletic fields to ensure they are safe for staff, students, and visitor use, and report safety hazards and the need for major and minor repairs.Perform maintenance tasks, including changing air filters and light bulbs, painting, conducting preventative maintenance, as well as other tasks assigned by the Campus Facilities ManagerFollow all city, county, state, and federal safety guidelines in the repairs of the facilitiesOperate all equipment and machinery, in a safe mannerInitiate work orders/requestsAdhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes and codesPerforms other related assigned dutiesRequirementsQualifications and Skills:Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that serves as a consistent testimony to othersAgree to uphold Valley Christian's Mission & Beliefs which can be found at http://valleychristianaz.org/about/philosophy/Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school's Mission & Beliefs.Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint cardMust have excellent interpersonal and customer service skillsAbility to communicate effectively both written and verballyBasic proficiency in English is required to effectively perform job duties, including communication with staff, students, and vendorsMust be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related softwareAbility to multi-task with organizationAbility to read and understand safety data sheets, materials, and trainingMust take OSHA related training as assignedHas experience with auto scrubbers, industrial shampooers, and floor buffersHas a good knowledge of chemicals, hazards, & applications for cleaningAbility to use a vacuum, broom, and mopAbility to work with power toolsMust be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and eveningsAbility to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditionsAbility to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businessesEducation and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent is requiredExperience in building and ground maintenanceExperience in custodial cleaningPreferred Skills and KnowledgePrior experience preferredPhysical Requirements:Use a computer (visual and keyboarding)Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the timeRequires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story) and use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objectsContinual walking throughout the campusesMust be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)Ability to work in noisy and crowded school environmentAble to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the timeOccasionally requires drivingRequires visual acuity for diagnosing and repairing maintenance and mechanical problemsRegularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 70-100 pounds using safety measures to do soRequires working safely outdoors in varying temperatures and occasionally working in and around dust, fumes, and odorsTempe campus - work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairsTempe campus - able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergencyAble to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when neededMust be able to travel in state between campuses, to vendors, and to related eventsBackground Check Statement:VCS conducts pre-employment screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications.About Valley Christian Schools:Valley Christian Schools offers students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade big school opportunities in a small school environment.
