Sr. Simulation Software Engineer (Application Software)

Sr. Simulation Software Engineer (Application Software) Hawthorne, CA SpaceX is actively developing technologies to make a future where humanity explores the stars a reality, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. As a Software Engineer on the Simulations team, you will design, develop, and test our in-house simulation software supporting all SpaceX flight systems. You will program the core simulation infrastructure and collaborate on building models of fluids, electronics, and multi-body physics systems. This role builds high-fidelity simulations used to develop cutting-edge software and hardware for Falcon, Falcon Heavy, Dragon, Starlink, and Starship. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and maintain real-time, high-fidelity simulation software for all vehicles Prototype and prove out key design concepts to quantify technical constraints Maintain the highest standards of excellence and continually improve reliability and performance of simulation software Work with simulation software users to develop new features and enhance user experience BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 5+ years of software development experience; OR 7+ years of professional experience in lieu of a degree 2+ years of development experience in C++ PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Strong software design and development skills in C++ Understanding of distributed computing systems, networking protocols, memory management, and CPU scheduling Thorough knowledge of classical physics and math (algebra, calculus, Euclidean geometry) Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing Creative problem-solving approach Experience with open-source C++ simulators such as ROS2 and Gazebo Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements Ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Willingness to work extended hours and weekends when needed COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Pay range: Software Engineer/Senior – $160,000 – $225,000 per year Base salary determined by knowledge, skills, education, and experience Eligible for long-term incentives (stock, options, or awards) and discretionary bonuses Annual bonus potential and employee stock purchase plan opportunity Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage 401(k) retirement plan with company match Short- and long-term disability insurance and life insurance Paid parental leave, paid vacation (3 weeks), and 10+ paid holidays per year Paid sick leave pursuant to company policy EEO & Equal Opportunity SpaceX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
