The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success.Qualities needed to thrive in this role:Relationships- The ability to create and develop relationships with students, families, staff and the local communityKnowledge- Content and pedagogical knowledge to best allow for the educational process to demonstrate growthDedication- A commitment to the students and stake holders of PCA as well as a determination to reach all students academicallyCommunity- Communication and interpersonal skills to create an atmosphere and culture of acceptance to foster and promote learning with parents, students, and staffMajor Responsibilities Include:Under the supervision of the teacher and the Dean of Academics, the Teacher will:Be knowledgeable in academic areas, learning theories, and teaching strategiesHave training in classroom management and disciplineHave a positive attitude and growth mindsetDevelop a scope and sequence within the first two weeks of schoolWork hand in hand with the special education departmentBe able to display lesson plans dailyAttend PLC meetings as scheduledDemonstrate effective identification, planning, and utilization of community resources consistent with the objectives of the classBegin instruction promptly at 8:00amWorks closely with immediate colleagues within the department as a team when planning the academic programPlans and implements a program of academic studies for which the individual is employedHandling materials in an orderly fashion, insuring that equipment and materials needed for the activity are readily available and that resources used are appropriate to the activity; providing proper care and use of equipmentEffectively communicates with parents, relating information of relevance and meaningPossesses experience in technology-based instruction and analyzes data to make informed decisions about students' instructional needsActively participates in PCA2THaving objectives and plans for the day that are communicated with students, following lesson plans based on the school's official curriculum or the Delaware Content Standards.Presenting a strong professional image through manner, voice and appearanceCreating an atmosphere in which mutual respect is evident;Routinely checking for each student's level of understanding of essential information during instruction and before moving onProvide opportunities for students to use or apply what they are learning while the teacher is available to assistRelating learning activities to student interests; offering varied learning activities; making involvement a part of the learning processProviding consistent and immediate feedback to studentsPraising students for appropriate classroom behavior; letting students know when they are making progress; varying praise wordsOther duties as assignedEssential Qualifications and Skills:Education:Bachelor's Degree from a four year accredited educational institution in education or related fieldMaster's Degree in Education or related field preferredDelaware State Initial or Continuing License (uploaded and approved in DEEDS)Dual Certification preferredExperience2+ Year's experience preferredSkillsAbility to:1. Maintain various student documentation, accommodations, and recordsCompensation:This position will require approximately 37.5 hours per week per week for a 10 months.Compensation: Based on experience and education.Notes:A criminal background check is required.
