Apply via Dice today!DescriptionWe seek an experienced and highly skilled GIS Technical Architect for a long-term hybrid (on-site in Sacramento when required and remote) assignment with our Sacramento, California-based client leading the design, implementation, and governance of our organization's enterprise-level geographic information systems and infrastructure. The GIS Technical Architect will develop and maintain the overall technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for GIS solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.Responsibilities:Develop and maintain the technical architecture and strategies for GIS systems, including data models, system integrations, and infrastructure designEvaluate and recommend GIS technologies, software, and tools to support organizational needs and objectivesCollaborate with stakeholders, project teams, and subject matter experts to gather requirements and define technical solutionsDesign and implement GIS data management strategies, including data governance, quality assurance, and security protocolsOversee the development and deployment of GIS applications, services, and tools, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practicesProvide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to GIS development teams and technical staffConduct research and stay up-to-date with emerging GIS technologies, trends, and industry developmentsDevelop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and guidelines for GIS systems and processesParticipate in the planning and execution of GIS projects, including resource allocation, risk management, and performance monitoringQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or a related fieldMinimum of 7 years of experience in GIS system architecture, design, and implementationDeep understanding of GIS data models, spatial analysis techniques, and cartographic principlesProficient in programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, SQL) and scripting for GIS automation and customizationStrong knowledge of database management systems, data warehousing, and data integration principlesExperience with enterprise GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise, FME Server, GeoServer)Familiarity with cloud-based GIS technologies and deployment modelsExcellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skillsStrong communication and stakeholder management abilitiesProven leadership and project management skillsPreferred Qualifications:Public sector experience is preferredMaster's degree in GIS, Computer Science, or a related fieldProfessional certifications (e.g., GISP, TOGAF, or vendor-specific certifications)Experience in specific domains (e.g., utilities, transportation, environmental, defense)Knowledge of web-based GIS technologies (e.g., ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web AppBuilder)Familiarity with DevOps practices and agile software development methodologies
