SQL DBA

Overview In this role you ensure the SQL Server environment is reliable, secure, and scalable. You will design, implement, and maintain database solutions supporting enterprise applications, collaborating with IT and development teams to meet project deliverables. The role emphasizes high availability, thorough backup/recovery, and proactive performance tuning in a SOX-compliant setting. You contribute to incident response and on-call support, driving steady improvements in database operations and security. ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, patch, and upgrade SQL Server environmentsManage security, access control, and regulatory complianceImplement and maintain high availability (e.g., Always On) configurationsMonitor, analyze, and tune database performance; optimize SQL statementsLead backup, recovery planning, and execute on-demand restorationsCollaborate with development teams and vendors across the project lifecycleOpen, manage, and escalate Microsoft SRs; coordinate vendor supportSupport 24x7 operations and participate in on-call rotationDevelop automation via scripting (Perl, Shell, PL/SQL, Python) to streamline tasksEnsure cross-platform compatibility and perform migrations as neededMaintain release and change Management compliance and QA standardsAct as SME for supported applications and provide production supportStay current with industry trends and Oracle/PostgreSQL as auxiliary knowledgeValidate backup strategies and improve recovery processes Key requirementsHands-on experience administering SQL Server 2008 and aboveExpert knowledge of SQL Server architecture and conceptsExperience optimizing database solutions for multi-terabyte databasesStrong knowledge of SQL Server backup and recovery scenariosExperience with cross-platform database migrationsProficiency with SQL and PL/SQL optimizationScripting experience in Perl and/or ShellExperience with Always On Availability GroupsNice-to-have: Oracle and/or PostgreSQL experienceAbility to work with development/support teams to optimize database resources and queriesProblem solvingTeam collaborationOn-call readinessSQL Server 2008+ administrationHigh availability configurations (Always On)Performance tuning and query optimization
