Transportation Technician Assistant
SUMMARY: The mechanics assistant position will assist the transportation mechanics in the daily workload of transportation shop department. This position will enable the department and mechanics to stagger work shifts and provide daily help and for an extended workday. To repair and maintain all district vehicles and equipment, work orders, to assist in annual inspections, emissions. Preventive maintenance, inventory, and vendor supply orders. Monitor hazardous material. Assist Dispatcher/ Secretaries with information regarding availability of bus use and invoice payments. Work with community entities such as public service, etc.SALARY: Classified Grade P, starting at $24.39 per hour to start, depending onrecent relevant experience. 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. 12 month work schedule. This position is eligible for benefits.Duties And ResponsibilitiesAssist with the preventative maintenance for all buses, vans and district vehicles to ensure safety and vehicle performancePerform duties such as: tune-ups, oil changes, transmission services, replacements of tires/lights/windows, etc.Assist in the required CDE annual inspections for vehicles by performing the prep work for the mechanics such as "tear downs,"Assist with transporting vehicles to outside vendors for repair and maintenanceAssist in maintaining the supplies/parts roomAssist in responding to emergency road callsAssist in ordering the picking up necessary parts and suppliesServe as backup for the drivers, paraprofessionals and dispatch when necessaryPerform other duties as assigned by the mechanics or the supervisorQualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent requiredExperience with computer softwareExperience working with auto mechanics/dieselOne or more years mechanical experience on medium duty trucks, buses or automobiles and/or completion of high school or trade school mechanical courses (or be in the process of finishing)Basic math, writing, interpersonal and communication skills.Operating knowledge of, and experience with buses, vans, maintenance trucks, diagnostic equipment, lawn mowers and snow plows.Must provide basic tools and tool boxCERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:Must obtain commercial driver's license (CDL), complete Department of Transportation physical exam, and "B" License with P2-S endorsement upon completion of district training.
