Senior Instrumentation Engineer

Job SummaryThe Senior Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for managing client projects and for assuring high quality and timely completion of engineering designs and reports. The Senior Engineer should be comfortable interfacing with the clients, visiting clients’ facilities and performing physical work such as walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing stairs/ladders. Key responsibilities include technical calculations and preparation of I&C deliverables.Key ResponsibilitiesInstrumentation Engineering (Primary)Lead detailed design of instrumentation systems for EPC projectsP&IDs in regard to instrument and control philosophyMaintain instrument index and I/O lists for DCS, PLC, and SIS systemsDevelop instrument datasheets (flow, level, pressure, temperature, analyzers) and complete instrument sizing and calibration drawingsSpecify and apply measurement technologies based on process conditions and installation requirements, i.e. DP flow, Coriolis, ultrasonic, radar, GWR, etcValve specifications and sizing (control valves, regulators, on/off valves)Perform loop design, control wiring and loop drawing developmentDevelop wiring infrastructure and interconnects for junction boxes, local control panels, marshalling panels, and control systemDefine installation details, i.e. Hook-ups, tubing layouts, impulse lines, thermowellsInstrument location plans and cable and conduit routing plansRead motor schematics and develop control system interface with starters and VFDsReview of vendor drawing submittalsTechnical evaluation of bidsAssistance in field workSupport of construction and startup/commissioning activitiesControl Systems Engineering (Secondary) Support control system architecture designDevelop:Control narratives and functional descriptionsCause & Effect matricesInterface with control system vendors and system integratorsReview logic diagrams, interlocks, and shutdown systemsParticipate in FAT/SAT and commissioning activitiesProject Execution Execute work across:FEED studies, FEL 1/2/3, ExecuteDetailed engineeringMinimal Construction supportCoordinate with: Process, mechanical, electrical, and piping disciplinesReview P&IDs and ensure instrumentation alignmentProvide technical input for procurement packages and vendor evaluationsProvide MTOs to estimating departmentManage deliverables, budgets, schedules, and technical qualityLeadership & Technical AuthorityDiscipline lead on assigned projectsMentor junior and mid-level engineersAct as technical checker for construction package and calculationsDrive standardization and best practices across projectsInterface directly with clients and stakeholdersProvide technical troubleshooting and problem-solving supportQualifications8+ Years of Engineering ExperienceDemonstrated experience in: Oil & Gas, Petrochemical / Refining, Chemical or heavy industrial facilitiesWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office productsProject lead experience developing engineering schedules, budgets and forecastsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work effectively in teams and to present a positive image to clientsWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and 3-D CAD a plusEngineering design tools and calculationsKnowledge of Industry Standards (ISA, PSM, etc.)Education/Certification RequirementsBS Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering or Mechanical EngineeringAdvanced degree, and/or P.E. certification a plusSIS certification a plusActive participation in professional organizations a plusCompetitive BenefitsLearn more about our competitive benefits in detail.Why Nexus?Nexus Engineering Group, a distinguished independent full-service engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCm) firm, provides comprehensive support to clients from concept through startup.
