Financial Aid Specialist - Workforce Development & Special Projects

TITLE:Financial Aid Specialist – Workforce Pell, Finish Line Grant & Special ProgramsFUNCTION:Robeson Community College is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist to support Workforce Development and Continuing Education students through programs such as Workforce Pell, the NC Finish Line Grant, and other federal, state, institutional, and special funding sources.This position assists students with financial aid processing, ensures accurate and timely awarding of funds, maintains compliance with regulations, and provides strong student support services.RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to the Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Services and works closely with Workforce Development, Student Services, Business Office staff, faculty, and external partners.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Aid AdministrationAdminister Workforce Pell, including eligibility, verification, awarding, and complianceServe as primary contact for Workforce Pell studentsManage NC Finish Line Grant emergency funding processOversee special grants and scholarships for Workforce and short-term programsProcess awards, disbursements, adjustments, and reportingMaintain accurate student records and resolve data issuesEnsure compliance with FERPA, federal, and state regulationsStudent SupportAdvise students on eligibility, SAP, deadlines, and funding optionsConduct outreach events (FAFSA nights, orientations, workshops)Support enrollment and student retention effortsProvide excellent customer service to students and partnersCompliance & ReportingMaintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional policiesAssist with audits and program reviewsMonitor regulatory changes and recommend improvementsEnsure proper fiscal and documentation practicesOutreach & CollaborationSupport financial aid communications and outreach effortsCollaborate with campus departments and community partnersRepresent the college in a professional mannerQUALIFICATIONSRequiredAssociate’s degree from an accredited institution2+ years of experience in a college or higher education setting (financial aid preferred)PreferredFinancial aid processing experienceKnowledge of Workforce Pell and NC Finish Line GrantExperience with Workforce Development/Continuing Education studentsSkills & AbilitiesKnowledge of federal and state financial aid rulesStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with computers and Microsoft OfficeStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsAbility to work with diverse populationsOtherValid NC Driver’s License required (occasional travel)SUMMARY:This role supports student success by ensuring access to financial aid resources, accurate processing of funds, and high-quality service to Workforce Development and Continuing Education students.
