Director of Simulation (Academic Program Management Specialist IV)
Description of Job Duty:The Director of Simulation provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the simulation program, ensuring alignment with the School's philosophy, academic mission, accreditation standards, and state board requirements. This role is responsible for advancing simulation-based education through program development, faculty collaboration, quality improvement initiatives, fiscal management, and integration of emerging technologies to support student success and clinical excellence. The Director fosters research and external partnerships and guides short- and long-term strategic planning to sustain innovation and effectiveness within the simulation laboratory.Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.Essential Functions:Program Leadership and Operations:Support the philosophy and academic strategic goals of Tennessee Tech University Whitson-Hester School of Nursing (WHSON).Strategically plan and facilitate simulation utilization, growth, and effectiveness.Create a positive and professional environment within the labs.Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures including written standards regarding the use of the simulation equipment within the WHSON.Develop, implement, and review quality assurance and improvement programs for simulation.Represent Tennessee Tech University and WHSON at simulation meetings on the local, state, and national level.Support the development and maintenance of a research infrastructure within the WHSON simulation lab.Develop and foster partnerships with manufacturers and vendors, as well as national leaders, in clinical simulation research and effective teaching strategies.Coordinates with the Lab Coordinator to engage academic, community, and practice partnerships.Supports student success through implementation of national simulation standards for education in the simulation lab.Personnel Management:* Develop and communicate strategies to prioritize, schedule and implement classes within theWHSON simulation lab while balancing needs and resources.Stay abreast of emerging technologies to create realistic learning environments.Assure adequate staffing to maximize lab efficiency and effectiveness.Provide opportunities for lab staff to engage in professional development activities.Faculty Support and Collaboration:Collaborate with leadership within the WHSON to determine simulation needs and areas for expansion.Work with faculty and content experts to design, develop, and implement simulation experiences to meet class and program requirements.Collaborate with faculty and content experts to evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of simulation experiences, including the application of outcome measures, statistical analysis, and feedback from learners, and emerging evidence-based recommendations to consistently improve educational offerings.Develop and implement technical training in simulation technology for staff and faculty to ensure best practice through simulation.Strategic Planning:Collaborate with faculty leadership within the WHSON to develop, expand, and evaluate the use of simulation throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculum to meet all accreditation and state board of nursing standards.Identify and implement short and long-term strategic goals and objectives for the use of simulation.Assess the effectiveness of identified short- and long-term goals and implement revision when applicable.Oversees evaluation process, purchasing, and implementation of operating procedures and systems used to support excellence in clinical learning within the WHSON simulation lab.Collaborate with Tennessee Tech University Information Technology department to ensure strategic planning for current and future technological purchases for the WHSON simulation lab.Fiscal and Operational Responsibilities:* Efficiently manages day-to-day operations, facilities, and simulation assets. Collaborate with Dean of theWHSON to ensure simulation labs operate with fiscal responsibility.Explores and obtains external grant opportunities and private donor support for the simulation lab.Monitors budgets and adjusts expenditures accordingly.Participates in the budget development process.Physical Demands:Those typical to perform the job duties listed.Special Instructions:Applicants are required to electronically upload a cover letter, resume, copy of transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire), and complete contact information for three references. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.Minimum Qualifications:Master's Degree from an accredited institution in nursing, education, or related field.Five years of related professional experience including a minimum of 3 years simulation or clinical education.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Progressive experience in leadership, management, or an educator role with supervision and/or coordination of diverse and multiple groups of individuals.Preferred Qualifications:Simulation certification or coursework in simulation or clinical education. Experience in curriculum development. Experience in grant writing.
