Data Engineer Lead

Overview In this Technical Lead role, you will guide data engineering initiatives while staying hands-on in delivery. You’ll lead engineering teams delivering data and analytics solutions in a cloud environment, with a strong focus on Databricks and AWS. You’ll mentor engineers, coordinate technical delivery, and tackle complex engineering challenges. This hybrid position favors candidates in the DMV area for in-person collaboration. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to ensure scalable, reliable data pipelines and modern data engineering practices. ResponsibilitiesLead day-to-day technical execution for data and analytics projectsServe as a senior hands-on engineer for solution design, development, and optimizationMentor engineers through technical leadership and code reviewsDevelop and maintain scalable data pipelines and processing in Databricks and AWSCollaborate with architects and program leadership to align solutions with project goalsBreak down requirements into actionable tasks and support sprint executionPartner with application engineers, QA, and business analysts for deliveryPromote best practices around performance, maintainability, testing, and operationsContribute to production support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvementSupport Agile delivery activities including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and estimation Key requirementsU.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain required clearanceBachelor’s degree in relevant field (Master’s a plus)8+ years of experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data processingHands-on expertise with Databricks and modern data engineering frameworksExperience in AWS cloud environmentsStrong proficiency in Python and/or Spark-based data processingFamiliarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and Agile developmentStrong troubleshooting, collaboration, and communication skillsAbility to lead technical efforts while remaining hands-on in deliveryDatabricks Certified Data Engineer Associate and/or Databricks Certified ML Associate (preferred)AWS Data Analytics – Specialty and/or AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional (preferred)Experience in client-facing or consulting environmentsStrong communication skills bridging technical and non-technical stakeholdersFamiliarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and toolsMentoring and leadershipStrong collaboration and communicationProblem-solving mindsetDatabricksAWSPython
