Research And Development Chemist
Purpose We are seeking a Research and Development Lab Associate to become an integral part of a growing team. In this role, you will provide functional technical support to Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, and other cross-functional teams.Primary ResponsibilitiesSupport development of formulations from concept through launch, ensuring alignment with product performance and manufacturability requirements.Assist in preparing product formulations in accordance with customer specifications, business requirements, and good manufacturing practices (product types include spa, skincare, nail care, etc.).Develop, design, and optimize chemical processes and new product formulations.Translate marketing concepts into scalable formulations through iterative prototype development.Prepare, maintain, and peer review technical documentation such as Master Batch Records, Ingredient Lists, Verification Protocols, Product Specifications, and Standard Operating Procedures.Stay current on new raw materials and ingredient innovations to support formulation improvements and new product development.Source and maintain price quotes and documentation for raw materials in coordination with Purchasing and Quality.Coordinate or produce product prototypes for internal and external evaluation to ensure formulation robustness.Develop, implement, and oversee scale-up procedures from laboratory to pilot and production levels.Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation to conduct product analysis and generate reliable data for development, stability, and troubleshooting.Monitor QC stability testing and assess formulation performance over time, identifying risks and recommending solutions.Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, consistency, and product quality.Maintain accurate records of all projects and assignments.Comply with all company policies, safety regulations, SOPs, and cGMP requirements.Maintain a safe work environment and follow safe operating procedures.Perform additional duties as assigned.Minimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).2–4 years of formulation development experience in cosmetics, personal care, or a related industry. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.Experience with color matching, color chemistry, and/or coatings or paint formulations.Experience developing new products and formulations.Knowledge of chemical, interfacial, and surface interactions.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skills.Working knowledge of laboratory techniques and regulatory considerations within cosmetics or related fields, with a willingness to continue learning.Ability to support product formulation, development, and commercialization in a fast-paced environment.Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities with the capability to manage shifting priorities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining positive working relationships across teams.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods and perform movements such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.Vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision, with the ability to adjust focus.Work may involve exposure to environments with noticeable product or ingredient odors.
