Structures Engineer
Role Sorian Aerospace is building a high-performance fighter-class jet for adversary air (Red Air) missions and advanced pilot training. The goal: deliver the maneuverability, integrated electronic warfare, BVR targeting, autonomous flight, CCA interoperability, and flight experience of front-line fighters — at a fraction of the cost. As a Structures Engineer, your job is to design and deliver the physical structure of the aircraft — from the outer mold line to the ribs, spars, and bulkheads that hold it all together. You’ll model components in CAD, analyze them using FEA, and work closely with manufacturing to ensure your parts can be built, assembled, and tested. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role. You’ll see your work fly — not just live in a model. Responsibilities Design primary and secondary aircraft structure using metallics and composites
Run structural analyses to validate stiffness, strength, and margins
Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure parts are buildable and fixturable
Review test data, iterate on designs, and debug failure modes
Own your parts through design, test, and integration — no handoffs
Requirements 3–7 years of experience in airframe structures, preferably on flight hardware
Proficiency in CAD (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) and FEA (e.g., NASTRAN, HyperMesh)
Familiarity with aerospace materials, composite layups, and joining methods
Understanding of load paths, margin tracking, and structural test methods
Comfortable working from first principles under real development constraints
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required
Results Deliver structural components that survive test and perform in flight
Create clean, lightweight, manufacturable designs under tight timelines
Help build a structural architecture that scales as the aircraft matures
Availability Full-time, based in Long Beach, CA
Some evenings and weekends may be required during build, integration, or test events Compensation Range $120,000–$180,000 base salary meaningful equity
complete healthcare benefits for you and your dependents
Company Core Values We run it hotter. We run it faster.
We design what flies — and we build what we design.
We value engineers who care about mass, margin, and manufacturability.
