The College is dedicated to cultivating leaders who serve and inspire through integrity, creativity, and purpose.Position Overview:The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach is a role that supports the competitive excellence of Bethany College's women's soccer program. Under the direction of the Head Women's Soccer Coach, this position assists in recruiting, coaching, and developing NAIA student-athletes. This role demands a commitment to creating a positive, growth-focused environment that emphasizes student-athlete development, academic achievement, retention, and community involvement. It centers on coaching, supervising, managing, retaining, and recruiting student-athletes in accordance with Bethany College, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) policies. The Assistant Coach collaborates with all staff to promote athletic excellence, academic achievement, and good sportsmanship.Reporting Relationships:Head Women's Soccer CoachDean of Athletics and/or Assistant Athletic DirectorEssential Functions:Assistant Women's Soccer Coach Responsibilities:Lead, support, and prioritize student-athlete retention and persistence to graduationCreate and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport; negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be toleratedAssist in formulating the team's competitive schedule and organizing student-athletes for successful and safe competitionAssist in planning and conducting pre- and post-season conditioning and training programsAssist in planning and leading pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goalsKeep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, and other professional development opportunitiesAdhere to College, KCAC, and NAIA policies and procedures at all timesFoster cooperative working relationships with the Head Coach, Dean of Athletics, Assistant Athletic Director, and all staff or team members associated with the programCooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditionsAssist in the administration of all phases of the NAIA soccer program, including recruiting qualified student-athletes in adherence to the College's recruitment scholarship modelAdhere to all College spending policies and procedures and the operational sport budgetActively lead fundraising efforts for the soccer program as well as for the Department of AthleticsAssist in preparing timely and accurate documents, such as travel expense statements and itinerariesSupport the Department of Athletics mission, vision, and valuesAssist in monitoring and supporting the academic success of student-athletesLead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the soccer programHelp prepare and manage records for the teamAssist in arranging team travel and mealsAssist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all timesAssist in coordinating visits by recruits and their familiesAssist in general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the programParticipate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestionsAssist in providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures; suggest methods to improve area operations, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customersWork in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilitiesTake the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staffGeneral Responsibilities:The statements contained herein describe the scope of the responsibility and essential functions of this position, but should not be considered to be an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may be assigned other duties, including work in other areas to cover absences or provide relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload.Qualifications:Required:Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceClear understanding of the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics in a private, church-related liberal arts settingExcellent grammar, spelling, and writing abilitiesExperience with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of desktop publishingFunctional knowledge with Microsoft Windows and basic personal computer operationCompetent in email and document managementAbility to use multiple Internet browsersWillingness to adapt to a changing technology environment, including updates, security, and new versionsAbility to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community-at-largeExcellent organizational skillsAbility to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be results-orientedHighly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environmentRegular attendance requiredPreferred:Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, some knowledge of the Spanish language skills is a plusPrevious coaching experience at the collegiate levelExperience with sports information, athletic communications, or digital media managementKnowledge of video streaming platforms and statistical softwarePhotography and graphic design skillsAbility to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and formatAbility to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directorsAbility to respond to common inquiries or complaints from constituents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business communityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsWorking ConditionsThe work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks but includes exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Work outside involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Semi-frequent or frequent conference-wide travel, or to assigned locations; frequent, prolonged, and irregular hours. Work performed indoors is generally with ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.Physical Skills and Abilities:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
