CNC Machinist- Wood Shop

Job Description Summary/ObjectiveThe Machine Operator prepares wood surfaces to become a part of finished goods by utilizing appropriate equipment – including computer-controlled machinery. In addition to operating computer-controlled machines, the operator must measure the dimensions of finished pieces and comply with quality, production, and safety standards of work. The machine operator will be working out of our Virginia branch based in Suffolk.Responsibilitieso Set up and operate computer-controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on wood surfaceso Lift workpieces to machines manually and or assisted with Lift tableso Monitor machine operation and control panel displayso Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequenceso Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtureso Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problemso Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue productiono Regularly performs basic routine maintenance on the machine, such as cleaning, lubrication, and inspectiono Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue productiono Stack or load finished items or place items on conveyor systemso Maintain work area by following good housekeeping ruleso Meet or exceed daily production requirementsCompetencieso Safety focus at all timeso Mechanical aptitudeo Manual dexterityo Interest in problem solvingo Ability to work independentlyo Math proficiencyo Computer proficiencyo Effective Communication – listening, responding, presentingo Results driveno Detail orientedo Fluent in EnglishWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazards associated with manufacturing. The employee will need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The employee will work with and around machinery and be exposed to vibration.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position and days of work are Monday through Friday. Mandatory overtime, including extended shifts and weekend work, is sometimes required.TravelThere is no regular travel required for this position. However, infrequent specialized off-site training may be provided requiring travel.Required Education and Experienceo Basic proficiency in math and reading comprehensiono 1+ years of machine operator experience
