With a growing team of more than 40 staff and an annual budget exceeding $8 million, Village for Vets combines community-driven funding with programmatic innovation to deliver measurable impact. Through supportive housing, emergency financial assistance, meals, case management, and connections to essential services, the organization helps veterans stabilize and rebuild independence. The organization operates through a flexible low-barrier approach – serving individuals who are often underserved by traditional systems. Working closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs and community partners, Village for Vets is a trusted resource for rapid, effective support when other programs fall short.POSITION OVERVIEW:Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Director (ED) provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of the organization. This role is responsible for translating mission into action – ensuring programs are effective, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving needs of veterans. The ED oversees fundraising, financial management, program performance, staff leadership and external partnerships. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who can operate both strategically and operationally in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Operational and Strategic LeadershipServe as a steward of the organization’s mission and guide its continued growth and impact.Develop and implement strategic priorities aligned with community needs and organizational capacityEnsure programs remain responsive, effective, and grounded in measurable outcomesFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvementEstablish performance metrics to evaluate programs and organizational effectiveness.Stakeholder Engagement and Fund DevelopmentStrengthen partnerships that enhance service delivery and organizational reachServe as a key representative with government agencies, community partners, and fundersLead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and eventsStrengthen donor relationships and expand the organization’s funding basePartner with the board to enhance fundraising capacity and engagementOversee development communications, including proposals and impact reporting.Financial ManagementOversee organizational budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal performanceMaintain strong internal controls and ensure responsible stewardship of resourcesProvide clear and accurate financial reporting to the boardEnsure compliance with all financial and regulatory requirementsGovernance & ComplianceWork closely with the Board of Directors to support governance and strategic oversightEnsure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and funding requirementsProactively address risks and maintain organizational integrityMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EducationBachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (e.g., public administration, business, social work, or related field)Leadership Experience5–10+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, social services, housing, or behavioral healthPrior experience in an executive or senior leadership role with operational and financial responsibilityDemonstrated success managing teams, budgets, and multi-faceted programs.Mission AlignmentCommitment to serving vulnerable populations, particularly veteransStrong judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead in dynamic or high-pressure situationsMilitary service is valued but not requiredFundraising and Financial AcumenProven ability to lead fundraising efforts across multiple revenue streamsExperience managing complex budgets and financial reportingKnowledge and SkillsUnderstanding of nonprofit governance and regulatory complianceStrong communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholdersExperience working effectively with a Board of DirectorsAbility to build partnerships and navigate complex service systemsCompensation and BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceOpportunity to lead a growing organization with significant community impactVillage for Vets is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive workplace.
