Plumbing and Gasfitting Inspector
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the positionof Plumbing and Gasfitting Inspector for the Building and ZoningDivision within the Inspectional Services Department. Under thedirection of the Chief Plumbing & Gas Inspector, the position will beresponsible for inspecting new and old plumbing installations. ThePlumbing and Gasfitting Inspector will enforce conformity with municipalordinances, state laws and accepted practices relating to theinstallation, maintenance, alteration, repair and removal of suchinstallations. The individual will exercise independent judgment andmake decisions requiring considerable technical discretion. BilingualApplicants Are Encouraged To Apply. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ANDABILITIES: \~ Knowledge of the principals and theory of plumbing \~Knowledge of the terminology, codes, symbols and standard abbreviationsused in plumbing work \~ Knowledge of the applicable local and statecodes and regulations related to plumbing work \~ Knowledge of thesafety practices and precautions which should be followed when engagedin plumbing work. \~ Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in theinspection and testing of plumbing systems \~ Ability to follow oral andwritten instructions \~ Ability to read and interpret documents such asplans, blueprints, schematics, drawings, etc. used in plumbing work \~Ability to maintain accurate records and express oneself clearly andconcisely, orally and in writing \~ Ability to inspect new and existingplumbing systems and to detect faults or defects with material and/orworkmanship \~ Ability to deal appropriately on behalf of the city withdepartment employees, the public Capable of quickly making good,accurate and sounds decisions. \~ Experience with electronic managementsoftware and ability to utilize a digital work order management process\~ Ability to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially \~Ability to supervise the work of journeymen and master plumbers MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS: \~ High School Diploma or equivalent. \~ Possession of acurrent and valid journeyman or master plumber?s license issued by theMassachusetts Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gasfitters. \~Practical experience as a master or journeyman plumber, continuously,during five years next preceding their appointment. \~ Excellentcommunications skills. \~ Valid Driver\'s License and access to reliabletransportation.
