You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element)Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following : initial inspection of small weapons to determine repairs needed; disassemble, repair and replace components on small arms; final inspection to ensure repairs were completed correctly; use of hand tools, precision gauges and measuring instruments; perform weapon operational tests; provide training; and prepare reports, work under close supervision of a work leader or journey- level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop buildings that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Exposed to oil, grease, and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools and sharp edges of metal. Subject to noise when test firing weapons. EducationThis job does not have an education qualification requirement. To be eligible to receive moving expenses, you must be a newly appointed Federal civilian employee or have a minimum of a 3-day break in service from previous Federal civilian employment. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointment may not exceed 18 months total. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
