We deliver trusted journalism, music discovery, and community-centered storytelling across radio and digital platforms-rooted in public service, journalistic integrity, and cultural merit.WYPR is Baltimore's NPR news station, providing local reporting, national news, and thoughtful conversation. WTMD is an independent music discovery station known for artist discovery, live performances, and community engagement.Together, BPM serves audiences across the Baltimore region through broadcast, digital storytelling, live events, and community programming.Position SummaryThe Anthony Brandon Summer Fellowship is a paid summer opportunity designed to support emerging talent and expand pathways into careers in public media, with a particular focus on journalism and content production.The fellow will gain hands-on exposure to the production lifecycle of public media content while contributing to day-to-day workflows across Baltimore Public Media. This structured fellowship provides mentorship and practical experience in journalism, production, and programming.Depending on organizational needs and the fellow's interests, the fellowship may include work across newsroom journalism, content production, music programming, podcast development, digital publishing, and community-facing programming.Applicants will be asked to indicate a preferred fellowship track when applying: Journalism or Production.Essential ResponsibilitiesThe fellow will support journalism and production workflows across Baltimore Public Media.Fellowship TracksApplicants will indicate a preferred track during the application process.Journalism Track (WYPR)This track focuses on supporting newsroom and journalism workflows. Typical responsibilities may include:Conducting research and supporting story developmentAssisting with show preparation including background briefs, guest prep, and segment planningDrafting short digital content such as web blurbs, headlines, or social media copyAssisting with production workflows including logging, transcription, and select-buildingProduction Track (WTMD / BPM Programming)This track focuses on supporting programming and production activities across Baltimore Public Media. Responsibilities may include:Supporting show preparation, production planning, or programming researchAssisting with podcast or digital production workflowsSupporting music programming or on-air preparationAssisting with station events, community programming, or special projectsProgram ExperienceAs part of the fellowship structure, the fellow may rotate through guided learning experiences that provide exposure to different stages of public media production, including:Story and content planningPre-production preparation such as research, booking, and run-of-show planningStudio or field production supportEditing and review processesPreparation for broadcast or digital publicationThe fellow will also complete a final learning deliverable aligned with the fellowship experience, such as a portfolio piece, reflection, or short presentation summarizing their work.QualificationsQualified candidates will demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in journalism, storytelling, and public media production.Preferred qualifications include:Current college enrollment or recent graduation (within the past two years)Interest in journalism, production, music programming, or public media operationsStrong organizational and communication skillsAbility to manage deadlines and contribute within a collaborative team environmentInterest in learning new tools and workflows, including content management systems and basic production platformsPrior journalism or production experience is helpful but not required.Working ConditionsThis fellowship will take place primarily on-site at Baltimore Public Media's offices in Baltimore, Maryland.The role may involve time in studios, production spaces, or editorial environments depending on weekly activities.
