Data Engineer - Data Platform

Overview As a Data Engineer at Mill, you will design and maintain the core data infrastructure powering analytics and product data. You’ll build scalable pipelines, manage data warehouses, and support a self-serve analytics platform (Hex + Snowflake) used across product, engineering, analytics, and marketing. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and evolve the recommendations/LLM-focused work over time. This role supports Mill’s mission to keep food in the system and out of landfills by enabling data-driven decisions at scale. ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines across product and operational systemsManage data infrastructure to power product, analytics, and external customer data feedsCollaborate with software engineers to instrument new features and ensure clean event data flowsDevelop and maintain the self-serve analytics platform (Hex + Snowflake)Maintain metrics, endorsements, and business logic used by analystsOwn data quality monitoring with alerting, validation, and observability tooling Key requirements3-5 years of experience operating production data engineering systemsExperience building and operating data pipelines using Python, SQL, and tools like dbt, Airflow, Fivetran with Snowflake or similarExperience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi) and CI/CD for pipelines and infra changesExperience with transactional databases (PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS) and understanding OLTP vs. warehouse workloadsAbility to collaborate in a cross-functional, priority-driven environmentBias toward actioncollaboration across product, engineering, analytics, and marketingcross-functional communicationproactive problem solvingPythonSQLdbt
