Special Education Teacher / Education Specialist - Mod/Severe (26-27)

DescriptionPosition SummaryTeach with Purpose: At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, our Education Specialists ensure that every student's unique strengths are recognized, supported, and celebrated. You will design and/or co-design engaging, differentiated lessons, use data to guide instruction, and create inclusive classrooms where all students can learn and thrive. You'll also integrate Social Emotional Learning and Restorative Practices to build a joyful, safe, and affirming community.Collaborate and Grow: You'll work closely with your school's Leadership Team-including your Instructional Coach-and partner with general education teachers and service providers to ensure all students receive the support they need. Through weekly meetings, coaching, and professional learning, you'll receive the support and feedback to grow as both an educator and advocate.Commit to Equity and Anti-Racism: We are committed to building an anti-racist and inclusive school community. Our teachers engage in ongoing reflection on identity, equity, and systemic impact, and we collectively examine our practices, data, and culture to ensure our schools serve every student with excellence and dignity.Preferred QualificationsExperience:Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities and/or students from backgrounds similar to our KIPP Northern California community (preferred)Education:Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (required)Meet one of the following eligibility requirements (required):Hold a valid teaching credential in the subject of your desired role, orBe eligible for a General Education Limited Assignment Permit, Provisional Internship Permit, or Short Term Staff Permit (CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is a prerequisite for this permit)Skills and Mindsets:Deep commitment to KIPP's mission and visionDedication to anti-racist, culturally responsive teachingBelief that all students can achieve at the highest levelsStrong content knowledge and instructional skillsAbility to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleaguesProficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and openness to learning new educational technologies (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod)Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with federal and state lawsCollaborate with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to develop measurable goals and support plans in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areasDeliver specialized academic instruction and intervention through models such as co-teaching, push-in, pull-out, small-group, and one-to-one supportCollect and analyze data regularly to track student progress toward IEP goals, inform instruction, and communicate growth to familiesDevelop and adapt daily and long-term lesson plans aligned with both IEP goals and KIPP's academic visionPartner with general education teachers to modify materials and differentiate instruction to meet students' diverse learning needsSupport the training and development of paraeducators and other staff to ensure consistent, high-quality instructional supportFoster a positive, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment that incorporates Restorative Practices, Social Emotional Learning, and culturally responsive approachesCommunicate proactively and effectively with students, families, and colleagues to ensure alignment and partnership in supporting student successMaintain accurate, organized student records, including IEP documents, progress reports, and evaluationsEngage fully in ongoing professional development and Communities of Practice to continually refine instructional and equity-centered practicesPhysical, Mental and Environmental DemandsPhysical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.Environmental: School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.
