Teacher - EI (Middle/High School)
SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Principal, Emotionally Impaired Programs and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Teacher, Emotionally Impaired, plans, implements and evaluates the assigned educational components for students at Meadowview School's Emotional Impairment Program. Supports students using the MTSS process.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Provide evidence-based assessment, instruction and interventions that are matched to student needs using data-driven instructional decision-making, problem solving and progress monitoring through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework to positively impact student growth and achievement.• Establish and maintain an instructional milieu, which will be supportive of positive behavior change and academic achievement for the students.• Develop courses and deliver daily instruction to students, which aligns with the Michigan Merit curriculum.• Implement individualized education plans for students.• Maintain attendance records and other data, records, and reports required by the program supervisor.• Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Eaton Regional Educational Service Agency.• Establish and maintain constructive professional relationships with the school staff and parents/guardians.• Maintain classroom area and furnishings in appropriate condition.• Maintain, store, utilize and protect records according to Eaton RESA policies.• Request equipment and supplies as needed.• Work cooperatively with assigned paraprofessional(s) and supervise volunteers and student trainees.• Adhere to the school schedule and calendar.• Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings.• Provide assistance to substitute teaching personnel as needed.• Teach elective courses, as assigned.• Maintains a current level of knowledge regarding special education federal regulations, state law and current procedures.• Obtains contemporary professional information and literature.• Other duties as assigned.The listed tasks are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by a person in this position, and are not an exhaustive list of all job duties performed.QUALIFICATIONSCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable):Required• Valid Michigan teaching certificate.• Emotionally Impaired endorsement for students in the given age/grade levels or willingness to obtain the necessary endorsement.EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:Required• Bachelor's degree in education or a related discipline.• Able to be Highly Qualified in AT LEAST one Michigan core content area.Desired• TCI/CPI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention/Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar training.• One (1) year or more experience as a teacher of the emotionally impaired.• One (1) year or more experience developing and implementing individualized education plans.• One (1) or more years of experience in differentiating instruction, including multiple grade levels.• One (1) or more years of experience in developing and implementing classroom level behavior systems & plans• One (1) or more years of experience promoting good personal relationships with students, parents, staff, and others.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES• Knowledge of commonly used approaches to educating at-risk students.• Knowledge of state and federal mandates which directly affect the program and teaching situation.• Knowledge of curriculum for conflict resolution and social skills training.• Skill with use of technology to implement work responsibilities.• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing.• Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention systems and individual student plans.• Ability to develop and implement curriculum (academic and behavioral) for students.• Ability to teach an elective, including but not limited to music, health, forensic science, art, etc.• Ability to promote and coordinate fulfillment of student social, emotional and behavioral needs with students, parents, agencies and others.• Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.• Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in dealing with staff, students and operations.• Ability to work independently and within teams to accomplish identified goals and strategies.• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with local district administrators/staff, parents, students, higher education, business and community partners.PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS:• Sitting -
