Utility Person

As a Utility Person at Cleveland-Cliffs Warren Ohio Coke Plant, your contributions will be visible all around you, the work we do here impacts people for generations to come. This is an entry level position and reports to the Battery Manager.The primary functions of the position are to clean door jambs, doorsills, machine faces, frames, faceplate, and oven door seals on the battery ovens.Summary of ResponsibilitiesPerform simple routine work of cleaning door jambs, doorsills, machine faces, frame, faceplate and oven door seals between wall and bench on the pusher and coke side of the batteryPerform simple routine work, damper lids, remove lids, sweep, and seal lidsAssist Pusher Machine Operator in keeping oven doors clean and sealedAssist Door Machine Operator in keeping door machine cleanAssist Larry Car Operator in pouring coalResponsible for some hazardous waste management functions. Perform physical waste activities (e.g. move and label containers, collect samples, inspection etc.)Generate or contact hazardous waste as part of production/maintenance process. May utilize accumulation container(s)Comply with all Safety, Health and Environmental Regulations, Policies and ProceduresAll other labor duties as directed by the Battery Manager/Shift ManagerMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required and must be at least 18 years of ageCandidates must be able to successfully pass the Utility Persons Services Assessment testMust be able to perform simple tasks involving physical labor using simple hand tools including shovel, broom, jamb bar, etc.Must have the ability to lift more than 25 lbs. and climb and/or work on uneven surfaces.Ability to read, understand and follow safety information, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, respirator equipment, boots with metatarsal protection, etc.)Must be able to work at heights, work in extreme head and cold and around hazardous chemicalsMust be able to work overtime and a rotating shift that shall include weekends and holidaysCleveland-Cliffs Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
