Cheese & Deli Counter Specialist

Feast Market & Café is seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Cheese & Deli Counter Specialist to join our team. This role is both customer-facing and hands-on—focused on slicing and selling cheese and charcuterie, maintaining an inviting and well-stocked counter, and helping customers discover new favorites. Responsibilities: Customer Experience Help customers select cheeses and charcuterie based on taste, occasion, and preferences Offer samples to help customers discover what they enjoy Share product knowledge and provide pairing recommendations (wine, beer, pantry items) Create a welcoming, helpful experience at the counter Product & Inventory Assist in selecting and maintaining a high-quality cheese and charcuterie assortment Taste products regularly to learn and maintain quality standards Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and restocking Use Square POS to track product movement and inventory Merchandising & Displays Maintain a clean, full, and visually appealing cheese counter Ensure accurate signage, labeling, and pricing Support in-store sampling and demos Counter Operations Slice, cut, wrap, and package cheese and deli items to high standards Prepare cheese boards and catering platters with care and attention to detail Support cross-merchandising with pantry items Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe workspace at all times Team Support Help maintain consistency and standards at the cheese counter Assist with general retail tasks, including stocking and closing duties Support the team during busy and slow periods (cleaning, restocking, sampling, etc.) Collaborate with wine and retail teams on pairings and events Qualifications 1–2+ years in food service, retail, or hospitality preferred Interest in cheese, food, and learning about new products Strong customer service and communication skills Comfortable working with food and handling products carefully Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented Able to stay productive during both busy and slower periods Benefits Health, dental, and vision insurance (full-time employees) Paid time off Employee discount Feast gift cards ($1 earned per hour worked) Consistent daytime schedule with evenings off Schedule Day and morning shifts (typically 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM) Weekend availability required Additional Requirements Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs Must be able to work on-site in Charlottesville, VA Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour Benefits: Dental insurance Employee discount Flexible schedule Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Physical Setting: Café Ability to Relocate: Charlottesville, VA 22903: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
