Controller
Our client, a prominent national non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead their Accounting Department! This role involves overseeing daily financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and managing a team to support the organization’s financial health. While this position has the opportunity to be fully remote after an initial training period, interested candidates will need to be based in the Portland metro area.SupervisionReports to the VP of Finance. Supervises Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist and Accounts Receivable Specialist. Key ResponsibilitiesOversee and coordinate accounting activities to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. Manage general accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reviews. Direct financial audits, prepare audit schedules and update internal control policies. Review and coordinate financial reporting, including tax filings and grant reporting. Provide guidance and support to the VP of Finance on financial matters and policy updates. Lead training, development, and performance management for accounting staff. Maintain administrative files and ensure timely completion of organizational documents. Assist with financial forecasts, plans, and strategic advice as needed. Undertake additional duties and special projects as assigned. Problem-Solving: Proven analytical skills and capacity to handle multiple priorities. Attention to Detail: Accurate data management and thorough documentation. QualificationsEducation: Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred. CPA or CMA certification is a plus. Experience: Minimum of eight years in financial and general accounting roles, including non-profit experience. At least five years of supervisory experience. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with accounting software (Abila/MIP/Sage Software preferred).
