Assay Lab Intern
DescriptionMilford Mining Company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented college student to join our Assay Lab team for the summer. This internship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced mining laboratory, where you'll support the analysis of ore, process samples, and environmental monitoring, contributing directly to daily operations and decision-making across the site.What You’ll GainExposure to real-world mining and mineral processing operationsPractical lab skills in chemical analysis and sample managementInsight into mining industry career paths and professional networkingExperience working in a safety-focused, production-driven environmentThis is a great opportunity for students looking to build technical and professional skills in a mining laboratory setting.Essential FunctionsAssist with sample preparation (drying, crushing, pulverizing) in accordance with lab protocolsSupport wet chemistry and instrumental analysis (e.g., AAS, ICP) under supervisionPerform data entry and maintain accurate lab recordsHelp maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environmentLearn and apply standard operating procedures for assay workflowsParticipate in QA/QC procedures, including handling of blanks, duplicates, and standardsWork collaboratively with geologists, metallurgists, and lab techniciansSkills & CompetenciesKnowledge of and enthusiasm for chemistryPassion for learning, and a willingness to think outside the box.Be a highly motivated self-starterAbility to work as part of a team with people from both within and outside the lab. Days and hours to be determined by business need and intern work availability.TravelTravel between buildings on the property will be required at times.RequirementsQualifications:Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Geology, Mining Engineering, or a related science fieldCompletion of introductory chemistry or laboratory coursework preferredStrong attention to detail and willingness to follow precise proceduresAbility to work independently and in a team settingGood communication skills and a strong work ethicMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs and wear PPE in accordance with safety protocols
