FOIA Compliance Analyst
We are looking for an experienced FOIA Compliance Analyst to join our team on a contract basis in Richmond, Virginia. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in managing and coordinating public records requests related to financial data, ensuring compliance with applicable Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regulations at both federal and state levels. This position requires a strong understanding of legal requirements, financial operations, and meticulous attention to detail to balance transparency with confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Act as the primary coordinator for public records requests related to financial information under FOIA or state equivalents.
Manage and track incoming requests, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and deadlines.
Collaborate with finance teams to locate, review, and prepare requested records.
Analyze and apply exemptions to sensitive information in accordance with legal guidelines.
Maintain accurate records of all requests, communications, and associated fees.
Draft and deliver timely responses to requestors, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
Liaise with legal and compliance teams to ensure proper handling of confidential data.
Provide guidance on FOIA processes and requirements to internal stakeholders.
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and Excel to organize and track information effectively.
Stay updated on changes in FOIA regulations and best practices for compliance.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in compliance or financial operations, with a focus on FOIA requests.
Strong knowledge of federal and state FOIA laws and requirements.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to manage interactions with requestors and internal teams.
Proven organizational skills and attention to detail in handling sensitive information.
Familiarity with financial terminology and operations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, for record tracking and reporting.
Experience working in state or federal government settings is highly desirable.
Legal or paralegal background is a plus.
