Mechanic - Class B (T-4)
Description/Distinguishing Features Performs skilled mechanical repair work of a journeyman level. Supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor who assigns the work in general terms. A "B" Mechanic must be able to complete the job with only general assistance. Will be required to act as a lead person. Must be available to work all shifts, including weekends. Must be able to pass written mechanics skills test. Must possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class "B" with "P" endorsement; OR a CDL permit-upon hire. Examples of Duties Repairs or overhauls major units of the chassis such as motor, clutch, transmission, and differential; Checks and repairs minor electrical failures; Repairs GPS systems an camera systems; Replaces and or rebuilds shock absorbers; Repairs or overhauls brake systems; Overhauls, replaces various ignition system parts; Tunes up engines; Checks and repairs fare collection equipment; Repairs, troubleshoots and replaces air conditioning components; Tests all repairs; Maintains necessary records. Essential Qualifications Good knowledge of motor and chassis units and general bus repair practices, tools, and equipment; Skill in the use of bus repair tools and equipment; Ability to quickly diagnose problems and make appropriate repairs; Good powers of observation; Initiative and resourcefulness in handling repair problems; Ability to lift 50 lbs on a routine basis and up to 75 lbs on an intermittent basis Acceptable Training and Experience Considerable experience in repairing heavy vehicle equipment; Completion of a high school or vocational course; Possession of a Section 608 Type II air conditioning certification -within probation period; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
