Software Engineer (React, Angular) - USA | Remote

About the Role: Etsy is seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer for a contract position with its Agent Platform and Experience team. The team consists of six engineers and focuses on improving the tools and infrastructure that enable Support Agents to deliver efficient, scalable, and high-quality customer service. In this role, you will contribute to existing agent tools and infrastructure, troubleshoot technical issues, improve application performance, and develop new capabilities. The position involves both maintaining and refactoring existing code and building new features, with opportunities to collaborate with product managers, designers, and UX stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and improve agent tooling and infrastructure to support Etsy's customer service operations. Build and maintain full-stack applications using frontend frameworks such as React or Angular. Contribute to the development of new features and enhancements to existing systems. Debug and troubleshoot software issues to maintain application reliability. Refactor and improve legacy code while maintaining functionality and code quality. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and UX stakeholders to define requirements and deliver impactful features. Help identify and clarify requirements rather than relying solely on predefined specifications. Analyze application performance and implement optimizations to improve efficiency. Consider the impact of technical decisions on end users and the overall customer experience. Provide general project support and collaborate with the engineering team throughout development.

Required Qualifications: Experience as a full-stack software engineer. Experience with frontend frameworks such as React and Angular. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency in PHP is preferred as a background for the full-stack role. Ability to work collaboratively with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders. Strong communication skills and a proactive, forward-looking approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience maintaining, refactoring, and improving legacy codebases. Experience defining and refining technical requirements. Comfort working with design and UX stakeholders, with an interest in user experience. Experience with performance tuning and identifying inefficiencies in application code. A user-focused mindset and interest in delivering impactful product features. Experience collaborating with Product Managers and Designers throughout the development process.

Location and Work Arrangement: This is a contract position with remote, flexible, or on-site work arrangements available. The team is split between the U.S. East Coast and Ireland, with core collaboration hours from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The role is intended to provide general project support and is unlikely to be extended or converted to a permanent position.

Interview Process: A 60-minute technical assessment, which may include a live coding session or technical deep dive with one or two members of the hiring team. A 30-minute interview with the hiring manager.
