GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORKUnder the supervision of the Principal, plan, organize, and implement appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSInstruct students according to appropriate curriculum (modifying to individual student need) that includes assessment and review processes for the Virginia Essentialized StandardsUtilizes resources to develop individual materials appropriate for the student's level of performancePlan, develop, write, and implement lesson plans in keeping with school district and state education requirements, keeping records of student achievement and tracking their abilitiesConducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learningDevelops, implements, and monitors IEPS for identified students, as well as other required plansWork in collaboration with various stakeholders including parents and related service providersComplete all required IEP documentation as required by the Virginia Department of Education for Student with Disabilities within applicable timelines and compliance standardsConfer with parents, administrators, related services, and other IEP team members to develop individual educational programs (IEP) designed to promote student's educational, physical, and social developmentServe as the case manager for an assigned group of students, organizing and maintaining the EC folder, coordinating all IEP meetings and facilitating progress monitoring and reporting on all IEP goalsPlan and deliver specialized, individualized instruction to address skills and strategies thatAssess, collaboratively analyze, interpret, and communicate students' progress toward measurable outcomes, using technology as appropriate, to inform both short- and long-term planning, and make ongoing adjustments to instructionTeach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive behavioral interventions and supportsPrepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks and by holding IEP meetings at transition points (e.g., Elementary to middle school)Coordinate the inclusion of students with special needs into general education settings as appropriate and specified in the IEPInstruct students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparationAct as a resource to the general education staff, teacher assistants, administration and parents as neededComply with and enforce school rules and school board policies and proceduresAttend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as appropriatePerform other duties as assignedQualificationsMust hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
