Parks Crewman

Class TitleCrewman 1 Department: Parks GENERAL PURPOSE Performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of parks, playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, swimming pool, splash pad, sidewalks, parking lots, and other city-owned property, with as few interruptions to the public as possible. Ensures that customer service, safety, and reliability is best we can provide in all types of weather conditions. Drives and operates a variety of specialized related equipment and vehicles to perform these duties. Cemetery Duties are meeting with funeral directors, families, grave diggers, marking graves, mowing weed eating, general upkeep. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of Parks Department Foreman or Director of Public Works. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Exercises supervision over crewmembers, equipment operators, ground workers or other temporary staff in the safety and completion of the daily field operations assigned in the absence of the supervisor or foreman. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of City Parks, Pool, Cemetery & Lots Mows, weed eats, rakes, shovels, paints, Removes & installs park signs on poles Installs & repairs plumbing fixtures, sidewalks, pathways & drainage Monitors visibility of signs, streets, pathways & keeps trees & other growth trimmed accordingly Monitor & address mowing of grass, weeds & trash in areas assigned to parks department Keeps Parks restrooms clean Trims trees and bushes Repairs park equipment, buildings, bathrooms, sidewalks & walking trails Mows & maintains parks & properties assigned to this department Constructs new parks, park equipment & parking areas Responsible for maintaining assigned vehicle Perform any other related duties Preform skillful operation of heavy equipment Perform strenuous work under emergency conditions and in all-weather conditions Required to work overtime as needed. Train crewmen and helpers & assist in operations of the Pool, Splash Pad & Cemetery Keeps inventory, time and material records, as assigned All other assignments as directed by the Supervisor, Director of Public Works or City Manager PERIPHERAL DUTIES Ensures equipment is in proper working order. Responds to customer complaints. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED equivalent Sufficient education or vocational training plus a minimum of 6 months to 1 year of progressively responsible experience in park maintenance work. Must possess acceptable skills in parks equipment operation, leadership, verbal and written communication skills, and interact well in a team environment. Must have a working knowledge of the requirements of Pool & Park Safety & Code Requirements. Must be a Certified Pool Operator Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (A) Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in the parks maintenance work; Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; considerable knowledge of the principles of calculating materials & grades needed for parks projects and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations. (B) Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment; Skill in the application of first aid methods, including artificial respiration. (C) Ability to follow proper methods, procedures, and safety precautions of park work; Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; Ability to work under varying weather conditions; Ability to interact well in a team environment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A valid Texas Driver's License with Texas Class B CDL: endorsement and have a good driving record. Because a valid Texas Driver's license is required or will be required within six months, employment will be contingent upon negative results of a post-offer, pre-placement drug & alcohol test, and subsequent random drug and/or alcohol test. This is in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations and City of Llano policy. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup, forklift, chipper, hydraulic press, generator, chain saw, chipper and various hand tools. Operate heavy equipment, drive Trucks, Loaders, Backhoes, Compactors, Street sweepers, Water trucks, Patching truck, Distributor truck & Chip spreader Shredder and Mowers.
