Technical Programme Manager, Quantum Benchmarking
Overview:
In this role you connect IonQ's quantum computer development with the DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative. You integrate multiple internal efforts into a single master schedule, guiding the path to fault-tolerant, utility-scale quantum computing. You translate test results into actionable schedule impact and coordinate with government evaluators. You own external deliverables and organize customer site visits and reviews, balancing milestones with verification activities. You will work with ambiguity to plan architectures beyond current systems and keep customers aligned with progress. Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a government quality integrated master schedule across internal development efforts
- Track, forecast and report risk to upcoming contractual milestones
- Manage architecture, verification and validation deliverables with government evaluation teams
- Plan the commissioning and delivery of quantum computers to customer sites
- Organise customer site visits, technical reviews and status reporting
Key requirements:
- Around five years of hands-on quantum experience (industry, quantum control/systems, or PhD)
- Knowledge of trapped ion or neutral atom systems or other quantum hardware platforms
- Experience as a technical program manager, project engineer, or chief engineer in a defence environment
- Experience building or owning an integrated master schedule
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance
- Experience with national laboratories or government test/evaluation teams
- Ability to lead across a matrixed organization and bring customers along
