Career and Technical Education (CTE) Business Teacher (2026-2027 School Year)

TITLE: CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) TEACHER- BusinessPRIMARY FUNCTION:Plan, prepare, implement, monitor, and evaluate a quality competency-based CTE curriculum leading to the development of student skills sufficient to qualify for entry-level employment and/or post-secondary education using effective instruction with all students.QUALIFICATIONS:Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.Must have demonstrated success in working with a variety of students.Ability to utilize technology for instruction, data and analysis, and administrative purposes.REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of CTE ProgramsPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrate knowledge of subject/content area related to career exploration; hold high expectations for student achievement and demonstrate effective teaching practicesUse multiple student data elements to assess student progress, modify instruction and improving student learningCommunicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to foster individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the instructional programExhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning by participating in professional development opportunities, showing professionalism, and growing professionallyPlan, organize, and teach a competency-based CTE program in course areasAssists in the development and implementation of school division and state CTE initiatives, program articulation, and career pathwaysFoster and manage a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment to promote effective student behavior and successDemonstrate effective classroom and computer lab managementAssist in the development of and participate in activities designed to promote an innovative CTE programDevelop community and industry partnerships for studentsDemonstrate a professional commitment to CTE innovationMaintain and submit appropriate records of CTE program completers, grading, distribution of awards, and submit information/records including student progress for all studentsParticipates in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the CTE program and makes recommendations or revisions as necessaryOrder supplies, instructional materials, and equipment necessary for the programProvide information and counsel students relative to employment, career opportunities, and further educationParticipate in division, regional, and state CTE meetingsWork cooperatively with the CTE teachers and building administratorsMaintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contractShare with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervisionImplement and comply with division policies and proceduresPerform appropriate tasks as designated by the principal relating to the responsibilities listed aboveKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREDKnowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to the assignmentKnowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practicesKnowledge of and skills in implementing various formative and summative assessmentsKnowledge of entry-level positions for students; potential career opportunities; and post-secondary educational opportunities in the CTE-technical program areaSkilled in Microsoft curriculum and industry certificationSkills in effective planning and implementation of lessons based upon individual student needsSkills in managing and promoting positive student behaviorSkills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growthSkills and abilities in organization, time management, and record-keepingAbility to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instructionAbility to articulate and implement the State StandardsAbility to effectively address and meet a wide range of academic, social and developmental needs for all types of learnersAbility to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team settingAbility to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administratorsAbility to maintain confidentialityCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSHold a valid Virginia driver's license.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
