SummaryJob Description:Paid Externship with a Trained Preceptor!General Information:The Nurse Extern II program is a collaboration between BaptistHealth Lexington (BHLex) and eligible accredited nursingprograms. The school will have oversight of the practicum hoursset up at the beginning of the semester and BHLex will haveoversight of the NE II program.The program offers additional clinical practice experience toqualified nursing students to enhance their preparation asfuture licensed nurses.The goal is to have a continuity of unit and preceptor for theentire time at BHLex.It is anticipated that, upon successful completion of the Nurse Extern II Program, participating students willtransition into a full-time staff nursing position after graduating and obtaining a provisional nursing license.Eligible students are second semester seniors electing to do their 120-hour/168-hour practicum at BHLex. Following completion of the 120-hour/168-hour practicum, students will continue working with a preceptor for approximately two 12-hour shifts per week for a total of 120/168 hours through the remainder of the semester.Education and Experience:The Nurse Extern II must be actively enrolled in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program and provide documented proof of active enrollment (transcript). Candidates must have successfully completed clinical coursework to reach senior-level standing as determined by an accredited school of nursing.Required Skills:Vital Signs: Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respirations, TemperatureMedications: Non-Parenteral route (PO, Optic, Ophthalmic, Nasal); Parenteral routes (ID, SQ, IM, Traditional, Z-Track)Non-Sterile Procedures: Patient transfer, Complete Bathing/Hygiene, Bed-making (occupied), Patient positioning (Semi Fowler's, Supine, Lateral)Procedures: Sterile Gloving, Sterile Dressing Change, Hand Washing/PPE, Foley Catheter Insertion, Tracheostomy Suction, NG placement to suctioning or feeding and removal, Peripheral IV catheter insertion and removal, Change peripheral catheter to saline lockBasic Life Support (BLS)Application Process:Apply to this job posting with updated resumeProvide current school transcripts (official OR unofficial)Complete interviewing process with Hiring Leader(s)If selected:Complete all onboarding and employee health requirements for BHCorbin.Attend 1-week paid orientation prior to starting senior semesterWork ExperienceEducationIf you would like to be part of a growing family focused on supporting clinical excellence, teamwork and innovation, we urge you to apply now!
