Noncertified Ophthalmic Assistant (JWT) KW - Kingwood, TX 77339 Overview Position Type: Full Time Travel Percentage: Two Locations Category: Health Care Description LOCATION: 22659 Highway 59 N, Suite 100 Kingwood, TX 77339 Travel to Gramercy location required twice a week with doctor. POSITION SUMMARY Contributes to the organization by working closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advance, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes. The OA floater generally meets with the patient before the Ophthalmologist to obtain medical history and prepare the patient for the examination. OA will also perform scribe duties when needed by collecting and documenting exam information into the electronic medical record system for the Ophthalmologist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for properly stocking, preparing, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms during clinic. Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information. Prepare patients for physicians exam. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physicians preference. Assists with in-office procedures. Prepare and ensure all consent forms are complete and accurate prior to in-office procedures. Prepares and cleans room after procedure. Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician. May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician. Assists with preparing letters to patients and referring physicians. Assists with diagnostic testing. Follow-up on diagnostic tests when directed by physician. Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments. Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants. Must meet and adhere to HEAs policies and procedures, uphold to the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs. If not BLS certified at time of employment, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment. EXPERIENCE Minimum 1-2 years' experience working with ophthalmologist. Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
