IT Operations & Security Manager
The IT Operations & Security Manager is responsible for the overall direction, reliability, security, and day-to-day management of General Refrigeration Company's information technology environment. This is a hands-on management position that combines technology leadership with practical operational support. The position is expected to establish priorities, identify risks, improve systems and processes, and ensure employees have secure, reliable, and effective technology to perform their work
Note: This position will be seated at our Delmar, DE location, with occasional travel to our Suffolk, VA and Garner, NC offices.
Role and Responsibilities
IT Leadership & Employee Support
Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to the Information Technology & Systems Specialist, including work priorities, coaching, and performance management.
Oversee employee IT support across all company locations and serve as the escalation point for more complex technology issues.
Ensure effective technology support for onboarding, offboarding, system access, equipment, and employee technology needs.
Partner with company leadership to identify technology needs, priorities, and opportunities for improvement.
IT Operations & Vendor Management
Serve as the company’s primary liaison with the outside IT provider/MSP and other technology vendors.
Oversee the reliability and performance of company networks, devices, Microsoft 365, telecommunications, and other technology resources.
Monitor vendor service levels, unresolved issues, technology projects, renewals, and recommendations.
Coordinate technology upgrades, equipment deployments, system changes, and other IT projects.
Cybersecurity & Data Protection
Oversee the company’s cybersecurity practices in coordination with the outside IT provider, including endpoint protection, patching, multifactor authentication, access controls, email security, and related safeguards.
Coordinate employee cybersecurity awareness and training efforts.
Lead the company’s response to suspected security incidents, compromised accounts, lost devices, or other technology security concerns.
Help maintain appropriate backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.
Business Systems & Technology Projects
Oversee the administration and effective use of company software systems, including BuildOps, Autodesk, Sage Intacct, Microsoft 365, and other assigned platforms.
Manage or coordinate system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and other technology projects.
Work with department leaders to identify system improvements and improve the use of existing technology.
Ensure appropriate system documentation, user access, licensing, reporting, and training are maintained.
Technology Assets, Licensing & Budget
Oversee company technology inventory, equipment assignments, replacement planning, purchasing, and disposal.
Manage software licenses, subscriptions, renewals, and utilization to support operational needs and control costs.
Assist leadership with technology budgeting, purchasing decisions, and planning for future technology needs.
Maintain appropriate records of technology systems, vendors, contracts, equipment, licenses, and related costs.
Multi-Location IT Support
Provide IT oversight for the company’s Delmar, DE, Suffolk, VA, and Garner, NC locations and help ensure consistent technology standards and practices across all locations.
Travel between company locations as needed for technology projects, troubleshooting, equipment deployment, security needs, training, and vendor coordination.
Qualifications and Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. A combination of relevant education, certifications, and progressively responsible IT experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Seven or more years of progressively responsible IT experience required, including experience with IT operations, systems administration, cybersecurity, business systems, technical projects, or related functions.
Previous supervisory, team leadership, or significant project leadership experience preferred. PMP, CompTIA, Microsoft, cybersecurity, or other relevant technology certifications preferred
Experience working with an outside IT provider, software vendor, or technology consultant preferred.
Experience supporting business software systems, user access, reporting, system implementation, or software administration preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel.
Familiarity with cloud-based software platforms, user permissions, software licensing, IT security practices.
Experience with BuildOps, Autodesk, Sage Intacct, or similar business software systems preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot common hardware, software, connectivity, printer, and user access issues.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests, projects, and deadlines.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues in a clear and professional manner to non-technical employees. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle company data, employee information, and system access responsibly.
Ability to work independently, follow up on unresolved issues, and coordinate effectively with employees, vendors, and leadership.
Recommended Licenses and Certifications
CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification preferred.
Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals or equivalent Microsoft certification preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, or the ability to otherwise travel between company locations as required.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
Manual dexterity required for computer use, equipment setup, device handling, and troubleshooting.
Ability to read screens, spreadsheets, system reports, helpdesk tickets and printed documents.
May need to lift, move, or carry technology equipment, office equipment, monitors, laptops, printers, or boxes, usually under 40 lbs.
Ability to move within the office, access workstations, assist users, inspect equipment, and attend meetings.
Ability to travel between company office locations in Delmar, DE, Suffolk, VA, and Garner, NC as needed.
Clear speech and hearing are needed for phone calls, virtual meetings, employee support, vendor coordination, and team collaboration.
