Program Director – SONYC After-School Programs Organization: I Challenge Myself Location: Harlem or Washington Heights Schedule: Full-Time Program: SONYC After-School Program Reports To: Senior Program DirectorStart Date: August 1, 2026About the OrganizationI Challenge Myself is a youth development organization committed to empowering young people through education, leadership development, wellness, and community engagement. Through dynamic programming and strong school partnerships, the organization helps students build confidence, resilience, and life skills that support long-term success.Position OverviewThe Program Director will oversee the implementation and daily operations of a SONYC-funded after-school program serving middle school youth in Harlem or Washington Heights. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality programming, supervising staff, maintaining compliance with NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) standards, and building strong relationships with school communities and families.The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, youth-centered, and experienced in after-school or youth development programming.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily operations of the SONYC after-school program Ensure compliance with DYCD SONYC grant requirements, policies, and reporting standards Supervise and support program staff, activity specialists, and group leaders Build positive relationships with school administration, families, students, and community partners Monitor student attendance, participation, and program engagement Coordinate enrichment activities, academic support, and special events Conduct site observations and support continuous program improvement Assist with program scheduling, staff meetings, and professional development Maintain accurate program records, reports, and documentation Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants QualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or related field Minimum 2–3 years of experience in after-school, youth development, or educational programming Experience with DYCD programs strongly preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to supervise staff and manage multiple responsibilities effectively Experience working with middle school youth in diverse communities Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online reporting systems Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply Schedule & CompensationFull-time position: 40 hours per week Schedule may include occasional evening events Compensation commensurate with experience Equal Opportunity StatementI Challenge Myself is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and program participants.Please email info@ichallengemyself.org with any questions.
