Senior z/OS System Programmer
Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior z/OS System Programmer / Solution Architect with over 10 years of hands-on experience in IBM Mainframe infrastructure, system software installation, configuration, and architecture. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in SMP/E-based product installation, IBM and ISV product administration, automation, migration planning, estimation, and system programming. This role requires both technical leadership and solution architecture capabilities for enterprise mainframe environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain enterprise IBM z/OS environments.Perform installation, customization, maintenance, and upgrades using SMP/E.Install, configure, troubleshoot, and support IBM and third-party (ISV) software products.Design end-to-end technical solutions for mainframe infrastructure modernization and upgrades.Develop architecture documents, implementation plans, and deployment strategies.Lead system software migrations, version upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.Perform impact analysis, effort estimation, and project planning for infrastructure projects.Develop automation solutions using REXX, JCL, and CLIST.Analyze and resolve complex system software issues and performance bottlenecks.Work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, vendors, and clients.Prepare technical documentation, standards, and best practices.Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance.Required Technical SkillsStrong expertise in IBM z/OS System ProgrammingExtensive experience with SMP/E Installation, Maintenance, APPLY/ACCEPT, CSI ManagementStrong experience in IBM Product Installation and ConfigurationExperience with ISV Product Installation and Administration (Broadcom, BMC, Rocket Software, Precisely, etc.)Strong knowledge of:z/OSJES2/JES3ISPFTSORACFSDSFUSSIPL ProcessStrong programming skills in:REXXJCLCLISTExperience in automation and scripting for system administration.Strong troubleshooting and performance analysis skills.Solution Architecture SkillsEnterprise Mainframe Solution ArchitectureInfrastructure AssessmentTechnical DesignCapacity PlanningHigh Availability & Disaster RecoveryInfrastructure ModernizationTechnical GovernanceCustomer PresentationsSolution DocumentationProject & Consulting SkillsEffort EstimationProject PlanningTechnical Proposal PreparationRisk AssessmentMigration StrategyClient InteractionTechnical LeadershipPreferred SkillsExperience in Mainframe migration and modernization projects.Experience upgrading IBM z/OS and subsystem versions.Knowledge of DevOps tools for Mainframe (Git, DBB, IDz, Jenkins, Ansible) is an added advantage.Experience with automation frameworks and scripting.Exposure to Cloud integration with Mainframe is desirable.
