Position SummaryPerforms routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assistsradiologists. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Develops/processesimages /CDs when needed. Adheres to established radiology standards of care. Appliesprinciples of radiation protection, when appropriate to minimize exposure to patient, self andothers. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Adheres to hospital wide customerservice programs. Performs other duties as assigned, such as quality assurance.Performs diagnostic and some special procedure medical radiographic images utilizing CAT scanequipment. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.Essential Functions And Responsibilities Includes The Following Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing differentand special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on imagesand required body part questionnaires Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/ or procedures and produces goodtechnical images, reviewing completed exams for quality, completeness for the type oftest ordered Assists physicians during procedures as necessary Performs equipment Quality assurance and calibrations as needed, orders supplies Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise inthe department. Works on call, holiday, overtime and/or day, evening and overnightshift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the department Maintains the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories. Reports allmalfunctioning equipment to Bio Med or supervisor. Processes images or prints CD’s if needed Performs routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports/films, documents information on patients’ request, Meditech or hospital RIS and PACsdigital x-ray system Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors Shows radiologist films and calls reports to the attending physician and documentscommunications if necessary (wet readings) May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding thehospitals behavioral standards. Introduces self and educates each patient or family member regarding the examinationthat is ordered. Knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical and psychosocialneeds of different patient populations including neonate/newborn,pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups Performs other related duties as required, attends staff meetings and in-services Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department or hospital Prepares schedules Maintains time sheets and prepares payroll Orders supplies In charge of daily patient flow and departmental tasks On standby/ call for emergency department coverage Performs all other related duties as assignedEducation& Experience Requirements The CAT Scan Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education andaccredited radiography school or hospital based program. NY State DOH Licensure orLimited Permit required. ARRT registered (RT) and radiograph (R) and or (CT) certified and / or NMTCB registered (CNMT), and documented trainingand experience in operating CT equipment and radiation physics and protection. Passing advanced CT examination /certification within 1 year from date of hire. Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forthby governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year perioddepending on year of birth. DOH IV certification preferred or by completion of 6 month orientation. BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must becompleted with 90 days of hire. Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the AmericanCollege of Radiology (ACR) will be performed during the orientation process and beforeend of probationary period.Core CompetenciesTeam work, adaptability, communication skills, problem-solving skills, planning and organizing,attention to detail, judgment and decisions making skills, stress tolerance.Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements& Work Environment Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the department to accesspatients and paperwork. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery The person in this position frequently communicates with patients who have questionsabout their bills/financial obligations. Must be able to exchange accurate information inthese situations. Must be able to observe and inspect employees and patients in the department. Frequently move and position patients for exams May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardouschemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety DataSheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (EmployeeTools/SDS Access).
