JOB The Nontraditional Student Program Associate will serve as a liaison to all Nontraditional Students actively attending Berea College. The associate will be responsible for gardening & sustainability education, program coordination and management, facility operational oversight, and will work to further sustainable practices through program collaboration with other departments. Additionally, the associate will serve on identified College committees (Summer Connections, Academic Services Intervention Team, etc.) to represent and serve Nontraditional Students. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Serve on the Orientation Committee for Summer Connections/Orientation/First-Year ExperienceSupervise student labor positions following all guidelines of the Labor office Oversee the development and implementation of programming to meet the needs of nontraditional studentsProvide leadership to the Nontraditional Student Association Assess needs and oversee the Nontraditional Student Clubhouse facilities/work ordersOversee the planning, planting, maintenance, and harvesting of the Ecovillage Community Garden while implementing sustainable and regenerative gardening practices, including composting, crop rotation, and organic pest management.Coordinate community-based programs and workshops focused on gardening, nutrition, and food sovereignty while facilitating volunteer engagement, including recruitment, training, and documentation of volunteer hours.Develop and lead programs that promote healthy eating, cooking with garden produce, and an understanding of the links between food, health, and the environment, while collaborating with public health and nutrition experts to align programming with community wellness goals.Oversee the BMart Resource store to include the purchase, organization, and distribution of food and personal items to nontraditional students. Ensure the consistent and equitable distribution of garden produce to the Ecovillage market and other community outlets while supporting the development of value-added products and farm-to-table initiatives that enhance food access and economic sustainability.In support of Berea College’s great commitments, this position requires student supervision. The fourth great commitment is to promote learning and serving in the community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning, and approving work performed. Developing students' common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. The positions are only available to 2025 and May 2026 Berea graduates, that have completed all of their coursework by May 2026.
