Litigation Associate
About the RoleThis is a primarily remote position for a litigation associate based in Southern California. The successful candidate will work remotely most days but must be able to come to our Pasadena office as needed. You will be expected to manage a case load collaboratively with the firm's principal while also being able to take on your own assignments with minimal hand-holding. This is a position for someone who is organized, creative, resourceful, and takes end-to-end ownership of their matters in a modern, technology-forward practice.ResponsibilitiesHandle a broad commercial and general litigation caseload in California state and federal courtDraft and argue motionsConduct and defend depositionsManage client communications, court appearances, and case strategy with oversightCollaboratively develop general litigation and discovery strategy and draft and respond to discoveryResearch and analyze legal issues across substantive areas including commercial, tort, real estate, employment, and other civil disputes as they ariseCoordinate with opposing counsel, courts, and vendors — without relying on support staff for routine tasks such as filingAdopt and use the firm's technology stack (case management, e-filing, document automation, legal AI tools) and contribute to improving how we workRequired QualificationsJuris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law schoolActive admission to the State Bar of California in good standingAt least three (3) years of state court litigation experience with additional federal court litigation experience strongly preferredDemonstrated ability to draft motions independently and with minimal oversightPrior experience conducting and defending depositionsAdmission to at least one California federal district court, or willingness to seek admission promptly upon hireBased in Southern California (or willing to relocate prior to start)Preferred QualificationsComfort working in both state and federal courtPrior small-firm or boutique experience, or other high-autonomy practice setting, including an ability to manage document formatting, calendaring, and e-filing without secretarial supportExperience with modern legal technology, including practice management platforms and AI-assisted research and drafting toolsWho We Are Looking ForWe are looking for someone who is:Resourceful — you figure things out before asking for help, and when you do ask, you come with a proposed answerAdaptable — your interests and skills span multiple practice areas, and you welcome work outside your comfort zoneQuick on your feet — you can switch contexts, think on the fly in court or on a call, and recover and learn from mistakesTech-forward — you actively look for ways technology can make your work better and faster, and you're comfortable adopting new toolsOrganized — you know where your deadlines, documents, and open issue stands at any given momentSelf-starting — you manage your docket without being reminded, and you don't wait to be told what to do nextCurious — you read cases you weren't assigned because you want to understand the issue betterClient-oriented — you understand that clients are real people and businesses with real problems, and you treat them that wayCompensation & BenefitsWe offer a competitive compensation package designed to reward both productivity and business development:Base salary: $115,000–$145,000, commensurate with experienceProduction bonus: quarterly bonuses paid for hours billed and collected above firm minimumsOrigination bonus: opportunity to develop and originate clients and earn a portion of fees generated from those clientsEmployer covers health insurance, Bar dues, MCLEs, professional association memberships, and malpractice insurancePaid time off: three weeks plus court holidays and reasonable sick leaveEquity path: no promises in writing at the outset, but a genuine and openly discussed possibility based on performance, firm growth, and originationAbout the FirmThe Law Offices of Jeremy L.
