The Director ensures that district and building educational objectives and practices are aligned to both state standards and evidence-based research that advances student achievement for all.Essential Functions/Duties:Oversees adherence to state-mandated curriculum and educational programming requirements, including standards alignment and graduation requirements.Under the direction of the Superintendent, guides the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, instructional, and assessment services to advance the district's mission and vision.Audits and revises instructional programs on a regular cycle to meet the regulations outlined by the PA Department of Education.Keeps abreast of current trends and research developments in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district's educational program.Coordinates communication of approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a database of approved instructional materials for all instructional programs.Through collaboration with others, oversees the horizontal and vertical alignment of all K-12 instructional programs.Oversees the creation of curriculum guides and the distribution of those guides to administrators and staff.Assists building principals with the development and maintenance of educational planning guides that communicate graduation requirements, approved courses, and credits to students, parents, and staff.Assists with the preparation and administration of the Federal Programs for the district, including, but not limited to the implementation of Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title IV funds.Serves on the district's MTSS team, and manages the implementation of Tier I academic programming and interventions. Collaborates on the development and implementation of Tier II and Tier III academic interventions with the appropriate personnel.Assists with the development and implementation of the district's professional development plan, including data analysis, collecting staff input, and identifying short and long-term needs.Oversees the K-12 Professional Learning Liaisons and evaluates performance in their PLL roles at their end of year review.Plans and implements the district's state-required K-12 teacher induction program.Prepares periodic reports on curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the Superintendent and school board as requested.Represents the district at assigned IU meetings, including EL and federal program meetings.Participates as a member of the district's Leadership Team.Collaborates with the Director of Communications on the appropriate district webpages to ensure transparency and accuracy in the publication of K-12 curriculum guides and other instructional information.Assists in the formulation and implementation of the District's Comprehensive Plan.In collaboration with the Director of Pupil Services and District Assessment Coordinator, assists with district and state-required assessments, testing programs & procedures, the interpretation of data for instructional planning, the alignment of assessments to standards and eligible content, and the use of any other evaluative measures used by the schools.Studies and evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs.Assumes a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the Board.Recommends the addition of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit allowance for courses, and graduation requirements.Assists with interpreting and communicating the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the general public.Participates in the work of state and national curriculum associations and study groups.Acts as a liaison for the district among educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional, and national levels.Attends school board and school board committee meetings as requested.Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent and/or other District Administrator.Department/OrganizationKeeps current with work changes and related developments that impact the department.Makes decisions consistent with the EASD mission and core values, establishes and maintains effective communication and positive relationships within EASD.Performs other functions as assigned by supervisors.Contributes to the effective team management of all issues and opportunities within EASD.Maintains an optimum relationship with other staff members by being courteous and always mindful of the importance of confidentiality.Scope and ImpactThis position involves a wide scope of responsibility.
